"We do not treat our patients to cure them of something done to them in the past; rather we are trying to cure them of what they still do to themselves and to others in order to cope with what was done to them in the past." - Philip M. Bromberg (1998)
I provide psychotherapy for individuals and couples.
I draw from many theoretical sources to identify underlying pressures and alleviate them as quickly as possible. Psychoanalysis, psychodynamically-oriented psychotherapy, attachment theory, dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral techniques, relaxation and mindfulness. I have completed Level I and Level II training in Gottman Method Couples therapy and utilize Gottman Method Couples Therapy and Emotion Focused Therapy in my work with couples.
Different approaches are needed with each person. I remind my patients that whatever their problem may be, it took them a lifetime to arrive at their current state. To promise an overnight fix would be unrealistic. However, just taking that first step, recognizing that something is not working and consulting a professional, almost invariably provides a considerable measure of relief. The simple knowledge that you are moving forward to address your problem nearly always has a calming effect. It's a bold step to begin to remediate the hindrances in your life and it will take commitment and patience to see the process through. But together, we will do this. You will learn to tackle your problems and, in time, manage what had felt unmanageable. In a comfortable and supportive atmosphere, I offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each of my clients individual needs to help attain the personal growth for which they are striving.
